WELL KNOWN LAWRENCE COUNTY DEPUTY, AND RECENT SHERIFF CANDIDATE, RESIGNS SUDDENLY
REASON FOR LEAVING POSITION UNKNOWN, BUT IN STATEMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA STATES WILHITE WILL SOON JOIN GREENUP COUNTY, KY SHERIFF’S DEPT
JULY 21, 2018 – WRITTEN BY WADE QUEEN
Mack Wilhite, a well known, and as of now, former Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputy, resigned from his position in the Lawrence County Sheriff Department earlier in the week.
The reason(s) for Dep. Wilhite quitting the sheriff’s department, are still unclear.
Wilhite announced his decision on his Facebook social media account on Tuesday July 17, along with his new future employment endeavor.
Wilhite is a Lawrence County native, and had been a deputy for several years with the sheriff’s department. He is also the owner and CEO of Max Medical Equipment Inc., a company he started at the beginning of this year.
He ran as Democratic candidate for sheriff this year, losing in the May primary by 106 votes to chief deputy Mark Wheeler, who will be facing their fellow deputy Chuck Jackson in the November election to replace the retiring Sheriff Garrett Roberts.
Wilhite, in his brief statement said the following:
“…Hello folks, I’m writing this to let everyone in Lawrence County know how appreciative I am for your friendship, support, love & acceptance as a deputy here. The backing of a community for a peace officer is very important and Lawrence county has never failed me while working here. As of Yesterday I am no longer employed by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s office. An opportunity has been presented to me that I have prayed about & I will be serving the communities of Greenup County as a deputy.”
“…It has truly been an honor & blessing to serve you. God bless you all”.
Wilhite’s wife, Cheryl Thompson Wilhite, also posted a note of support for her husband on her Facebook account page.
“…Beginning a new chapter. The one thing that will forever be constant is change. We must embrace what life offers us and pray for protection and guidance along the way. I am proud of you, Mack, and I am honored to be by your side supporting you in all that you do”, said Mrs. Wilhite.”
The Wilhite’s statement took many of the family and many friends in the Lawrence County community who know the couple by surprise, with Mack Wilhite receiving on his social media statement 220+ comments. along with several dozen comments on his wife social media account, all of them 100% positive in support of the couple and well-wishes in missing them here in Lawrence County as the changes in their future in their move to Greenup County.
With Mack Wilhite’s resignation and now open deputy position, that leaves the Lawrence County Sheriff Department with only 4 deputies to patrol the county. That will likely mean only one deputy on duty at any time of every hour to cover the 426 square miles of Lawrence County.
{Sherifff Garrett Roberts could not be reached for comment today but we will post it as soon as we get it.}
