MARTIN COUNTY MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY BREAKING INTO HOME OF WILLIAMSON POLICE CHIEF

Burglary suspect said he did not know who owned the home

Michael K. Mullins

A Martin County man made a trip to jail for allegedly breaking into the garage, that supposedly according to the suspect, unbeknownst to him, was that of a police chief’s home.

Martin County Sheriff John Kirk says an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday, June 13, for the individual identified who allegedly broke into the home of Williamson, West Virginia Police Chief Grady Dotson home early Tuesday morning June.12 and took several items including tools.

The sheriff says Mullins claims the garage was open, but Chief Dotson says the garage was closed.

Chief Dotson’s wife posted a home surveillance video of the suspect on Facebook. Sheriff Kirk says he immediately began getting calls from people identifying the thief. Sheriff Kirk said he knows Michael Mullins and issued warrants for his arrest and to search his home.

When Kirk went to Mullins’ home Wednesday, his wife identified her husband as the suspect.

Kirk says Mullins turned himself in at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center Thursday afternoon. Mullins also told a Kentucky State Police trooper waiting for him at the jail where he left the stolen tools.

Mullins told investigating officers he drove by the Dotson house every day, but he didn’t know who was living there.

Sheriff Kirk’s deputies were going to try to recover the stolen items on Friday, June 15.

Sheriff Kirk and Martin County deputy Aaron Blevins offered their thanks to the community and Chief Grady Dotson for their support and cooperation in helping with the investigation.

Michael Mullins has since been released from jail after he posted his bail bond.
