JUNE 9, 2018 – written by WADE QUEEN

From 12:01 A.M. June 1 thru to 11:59 P.M., June 8, there were at least 104 individuals who were arrested and were brought to be lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, Kentucky. Out of those 102 or so, 13 of those arrested were from Lawrence County.

Another 4 Lawrence County residents were arrested elsewhere: 2 in Johnson County, and 2 in Boyd County.

Last weekend there were 357 inmates lodged at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville; in which the maximum designated capacity for the BSRDC is to hold 225 inmates. That was just under 59% overcapacity, and an all time high for the BSRDC. By sunrise Thursday morning June 7 that number had dropped to 321, and has remained at or near 330 for the past couple of days.

For comparison, the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville, Kentucky, as of 11 P.M., Saturday night June 8, had 350 inmates booked, in a facility that designated maximum capacity is for 400 inmates. That is at 87.5% capacity.
