Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center and CVS Health to hold ribbon cutting for mock pharmacy program June 15
THELMA, Ky. — The Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center in Thelma and CVS Health will celebrate the opening of a new program and mock pharmacy store at the center with a ribbon cutting ceremony June 15 at 10:30 a.m.
CVS Health is providing the center with a curriculum, inventory and mock pharmacy setup to start the CVS Retail Pharmacy Collaborative program at the Perkins Center to train individuals with disabilities to work in a retail store. The hands-on training, which is the first of its kind in Kentucky, will include job skills such as providing customer service and using a cash register. Individuals who complete the 12-week training program will qualify to apply for a position at a CVS Pharmacy location.
The Perkins Center is one of eight locations across the nation where CVS Health is opening a mock pharmacy program this year as part of a collaboration with the National Consortium of State-Operated Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centers (NCSOCRC). The purpose of the program is to help Americans with disabilities find meaningful employment at CVS Pharmacy locations or similar retail stores.
The Perkins Center serves individuals with many types of disabilities to achieve their vocational goals. For more information about the center, visit https://kcc.ky.gov/Vocational-Rehabilitation/cdpvtc/Pages/default.aspx.
