Melvin Eugene “Gene” Daniels

1947 — 2018

Melvin Eugene “Gene” Daniels died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 70.

The son of Laura (Green) and James Bascom Daniels, Gene was born on August 17, 1947 and raised in Louisa, Kentucky. Upon graduating from Louisa High School in 1965, he entered the Air Force, serving in Okinawa and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. On August, 7, 1971 he married Patricia Ann Frazier with whom he shared nearly fifty years of love and devotion.

A kind-hearted and soft-spoken man, Gene worked hard creating a successful business as the owner of Heritage Marble in Columbus, Ohio. He was a dedicated family man who was a proud father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than to dote on his grandchildren whom he affectionately called Andy-man and Girly-o. As an avid golfer who played in many leagues over the years, he particularly enjoyed attending the Memorial Tournament each year, following the action for hours.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and three of his nine siblings, Margaret Adams, James Daniels, and Richard Daniels.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia “Patty” Daniels; sons, Brian (Amy) Daniels and Eric Daniels; grandchildren, Andrew Daniels and Ellie Daniels; siblings, Earlene (William) Webb, Mary LeMaster, Carolyn Jordan, Harold (Freddie) Daniels, Roger Daniels, and Patricia Lilly, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell in Powell, Ohio on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Young Funeral Home in Louisa, Kentucky on Monday, June 11, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held at Young Funeral Home Chapel in Louisa, Kentucky at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the James Cancer Hospital for their care and dedication. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, one of Gene’s favorite charities.
