Joyce Marie Copley

1956 — 2018

Joyce Marie Copley, 62, of Fort Gay, WV, walked through the valley of the shadow of death, but not alone. Her Lord & Savior was by her side and ushered her into her heavenly home on Friday May 11th, 2018, after a brave & valiant battle with brain cancer. Her faith and courage helped her fight this battle, that first began 17 years ago. In her most difficult times of struggle she remained steadfast, with a grounded and unshakable faith. God ultimately gave her the peace she so longed for.

Joyce was born on February 27, 1956, in Lenore, WV, the daughter of Albert & Lorraine Canterbury. She graduated from Fort Gay High School, class of ’75. Joyce attended Marshall University to obtain her license as a phlebotomist and worked at Riverview Lab in Louisa.

She enjoyed spending time with her family. Joyce was a devoted mother & grandmother. Her 4 children and grandchildren was what mattered to her the most. She was a humble & simple woman that enjoyed the little things in life. She loved to laugh, joke, and had a great sense of humor. Joyce loved the outdoors. Fishing and camping, was something she looked forward to. Every summer she took her children tent camping. She was a competitive horseshoe player, that could throw a ringer with her eyes closed. When her two sons became older she even taught them how to hunt. Indeed a woman of many talents, that was loved by many.

Joyce is survived by her mother Lorraine Canterbury, 4 children; Rodney & AJ Copley, Rhonda Crockett, Kimberly Conley, and grandchildren Brady, Charity, & Isaac Crockett, Angel, Katie, & Zoe Conley, Brittany, Chloe, & Gracy Copley, Evie & Spencer Copley 2 brothers Jesse & Frank Canterbury, 3 sisters, Pansy Bryant, Patricia Canterbury, Polly Fields and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her dear beloved father Albert Canterbury.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Workman, her extended family that always brought food and visited, and her sister Pansy Bryant who helped tremendously and never left her side.

Instead of flowers the family asks to just make a donation toward the funeral expenses.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11am at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Caudill officiating. Burial will take place at Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday May 13, 2018 at Wilson Funeral Home beginning at 6pm. All care and final arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
