GAS FLARE UP FIRE!

When: January 31st, 2018 @ 3:45 p.m.

Where: Lost Branch Road Martha, KY

Injuries: One injury

Damage: Minor fire damage at site

Cause: Kentucky State Fire Marshal and Kentucky Division of Oil and Gas are investigating the incident.

Details: Lawrence County E-911 received a call of a subject receiving burns from a flash fire at the site of an oil and gas drilling site on Lost Branch Road in Martha around 3:45 p.m. this afternoon.

The subject was being transported by private vehicle and they were requesting an ambulance meet them on the way to the hospital.

The fire was extinguished prior to the report to 911. The reporting party stated the scene was secure and no oil or gas leaked at the site.

Netcare Ambulance Lawrence County was dispatched to the scene and they in turned requested aeromedical to respond to due to the patient having suffered significant burns to his face.

LC-E911 requested aeromedical and dispatched the Blaine Fire Department to establish a landing zone at Rich Creek boat ramp. E-911 notified LC EMA of the incident and in turn the LC EMA notified the State Emergency Operations Center of the incident.

Due to no response from BVFD LC-E911 notified Louisa Fire Department to respond to handle the landing zone. Patient was transported for KY 32 to the landing zone by Netcare and then transferred to Healthnet Aeromedical. Patient was then flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV.

The Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office and the Kentucky Division of Oil and Gas are handling the investigation into the cause of the incident.
