Stanville, Ky. — Lawrence Co. basketball ventured into 58th District play for the first time on Friday night and came away with a split in the Boy/Girl doubleheader with the Betsy Layne Bobcats.

Lexi Ratliff hit 7-8 free throws in the final minutes to help the Lady Dawgs in a 58th District win Friday night at Betsy Layne.In the first game of the night it was the Lady Dawgs moving to 6-1 on the year with a hard fought come from behind road victory over Betsy Layne.

Lexi Ratliff hit 7-8 free throws down the stretch and Betsy Layne missed a three at the buzzer to win it.

Lawrence Co. trailed 22-16 after one quarter before turning up the defense to hold Betsy Layne to 7 points and cut the lead to 29-28 at Halftime.

In the second half the Lady Dawgs would extend the lead to 47-39 going to the 4th period.

In the last period Betsy Layne would cut into the lead before Lawrence Co. would close it out at the line and preserve their first 58th District victory in school history.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Morgan Co. Tuesday night, host East Ridge on Wednesday night and then travel to Rowan Co. Friday afternoon at 2:30 before taking off for Christmas break.

Betsy Layne 55 Lawrence Co. 49 ( OT )

In the second game of the night it was Betsy Layne outscoring the Dawgs in overtime 9-3 to come away with the 58th District victory.

Lawrence Co. was led by Chase Sartin with 17 points including 4 three pointers, Cody Maynard finished with 4 three pointers and 12 points, Tyler Maynard tallied 8 points, Noah Fairchild 6 points, Lucas Maynard 4 points and Baden Gillispie 2 points. LCHS hit 9 three’s and went 2-7 from the line.

Lawrence Co. 59 Phelps 56 ( Saturday )

Dawg 8th Grader Cody Maynard had 16 points in the 4th quarter and overtime in a victory over Phelps Saturday night.On Saturday night the Dawgs made the long trip to Phelps and played their second straight overtime game but thE second time Lawrence Co. ( 4-5 ) prevailed as 8th grader Cody Maynard scored 16 points in the 4th quarter and Overtime to lead the Bulldogs. He finished with 19 for the game.

Lawrence Co. had eight players score and finish with three in double figures. Lucas Maynard tallied 14 points, Tyler Maynard 10.

Noah Fairchild had 9 points, Alex Ratliff 5 points, Chase Sartin and Weston Hardin 2 points each, Baden Gillispie hit a free throw.

The Dawgs will travel to former district rival Belfry on Tuesday night before playing in the Hi Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic vs Pike Co. Central at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon Prestonsburg high school.

“… Tough overtime loss vs Betsy Layne. Good bounce back vs Phelps, We were down 50-38 with 6 minutes to go. Hopefully that’s what we needed. We figured out how to fight tonight.”
