PEDESTRIAN STUCK AND KILLED MONDAY MORNING ON RT. 3 SOUTH

Coroner ID’s victim as Michael David Hatfield of Logan County, W.Va.

CLIFFORD, KY. — A Logan County W, Va. man was struck and killed by a vehicle this morning around 5:45 am while standing on the Northbound lane of Rt. 3 South near Clifford, Ky, according to Lawrence County Coroner Mike Wilson.

Wilson said Michael David Hatfield, 38, of Sanna Ann, W.Va was killed immediately when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Oma Wilkerson, age not known, of Lawrence County who stopped immediately and called 911, Wilson said. 

Hatfield’s home is near Logan, W.Va and he had been recently released from the penitentiary and was “presumably on his way home.

“On 11/27/2017 at approximately 05:48 this morning (MONDAY) the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 6000 block of South HWY 3.

The Pedestrian appeared to have been walking south bound in a non-illuminated section of HWY 3 when he was struck by a north bound motorist.

Pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the County Coroner Mike Wilson.

Also responding to the scene were Net Care Ambulance, The Louisa and Cherryville Fire Departments.

The incident remains an open investigation by The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

No further information available for release pending notification of family members.
