NEXT MAYOR WILL MAKE $50,000 PER YEAR; COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL GET DOUBLE WHAT THEY MAKE NOW…

LOUISA, Ky. — The Louisa City Council met in regular session on November 14th, 2017 at 7pm.

Mayor Harold Slone called the meeting to order with all members present except council member Tom Parsons who was dealing with a death in his family. Mayor Slone sent condolences on behalf of the city to Mr. Parsons for the loss of his father and to the Dale Smith family a long time resident and former mobile home board member.

The city approved the following:

*   Council unanimously approved minutes from the October 10, 12, and 17 meetings.

*   Approved amendment to Ordinance 2012-09-1A relating to the regulation of parking of motor vehicles in the city and prohibiting large commercial tractor trailer type vehicles on city streets.

*   Unanimously approved ordinance 2017-08 regulating the use of fireworks in the city limits.

*   Unanimously approved ordinance 2012-02-A amendment to the ordinance relating to garbage collection and rates.

*   Addressed the need to set compensation for elected officials for the next administration as required by KRS 83A.070.

On a motion by Councilman Mitch Castle and second by Matt Brown compensation for the next administration’s monthly salaries will be $100 dollars for council members and $4,167.00 for mayor. All council agreed with councilwoman Schaffer abstaining. Council instructed the mayors salary be split 50/50 between the city budget and the water and sewer budget. All council members agreed that for the city to continue to move forward these salaries were in line with this size of the city and much needed to assure good leadership. New salaries would take effect for the next administration beginning January 2019.

*   Council approved an interlocal agreement with the county for the purchase of the old blacktop millings that had been removed from city streets at $10.00 per ton. The city will keep the amount they would use in a year on hand and sell the rest to the county.

*   Council approved the use of the community center for weekly line dancing at a reduced cost to cover cleaning.

*   Council went into executive session to discuss a possible future real estate transaction returning to regular session announcing no action taken.
