LOUISA, KY. — Rotarians met in Louisa yesterday Nov. 2nd for their normal Thursday luncheon. The meeting began with lunch, prayer for our community, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the reciting of the four way test.
While there was no speaker this week there were several announcements that the community should be informed of.
The 2017–2018 year’s motto is “ Making A Difference”. President Chris Jobe and member Debbie Cordle presented the club with a letter to inform the community of where the money raised is making a difference. Mrs. Cordle also spoke about goals for the future and ones that were met last year.
There have already been several donations to help the community, including to the Lawrence County Fair, Septemberfest, Teleworks Hub and God’s Food Bank. Also, money was sent to Rotary Foundations, Boots for Texas Hurricane Harvey, Farm to Fork, Sport Sign Sponsorships with LCHS Soccer and LCHS Football.
Money has gone to the following Community Projects; Ky. Homeplace, (20 fans purchased) and 3rd Grader Dictionaries (200 plus). The club has given 140 purchased and donated to the Annual Turkey Giveaway at the Family Resource Center. This does not include all of the volunteer hours that have come from this club. Louisa Rotary does amazing things for our community and are still recruiting new memberships.
Also a district grant for the Rediscover Louisa Tree Project has been applied for and approved.
In other news, new member Aliva Faris from the Lawrence County Extension office presented her upcoming educational programs.
On November 20 from 10 AM to 12 noon or from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM she will be teaching a Technology skills class. The class will be helpful to teach people who don’t know how to connect to Wi-Fi, how to surf the Internet, use Facebook, set up email and even talk through FaceTime/Skype and more. Anyone interested can register by calling the Lawrence County Extension Office.
She also announced that the Lawrence County Extension Homemakers will be having a painting class/ fundraiser with proceeds benefiting The Lawrence County Homemakers Scholarships and service funds.
After her announcements, Dr. Fletcher, Superintendent of Lawrence County Schools spoke on their plan to save the pensions for our teachers in Kentucky. He educated The club on how it will affect our schools, and our teachers.
Jodi Parsley announced, “It will also affect all other Kentucky employees, everyone who works in my office.” Something has to be done or there will be no incentive to NOT take our sick days. “
With those announcements the meeting was adjourned for the week.
