LOUISA – Familiar faces in new and challenging roles are greeting students in Lawrence County this fall.

Kristy Sammons, LMS, and Matt Maynard, LHS have been chosen as assistant principals in Lawrence Co.

Mr. Matt Maynard has been named assistant principal at Lawrence County High School and Mrs. Kristy Sammons has been hired as assistant principal at Louisa Middle School.

Sammons comes to her new role after 14 years as a classroom teacher at Louisa West Elementary School. She is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence County High School, earned an elementary education degree from Morehead State in 2004, and followed that up with a master’s degree in instructional leadership from MSU in 2010.

“I am thrilled to be working with the students and staff at LMS. I appreciate the LMS council for giving me this opportunity. My goals are to offer academic and behavioral support to the students, be a resource for the staff, and a connection for the parents and community,” Nelson said of her new position.

She is the wife of Mr. Ryan Sammons, a third grade teacher at Louisa East Elementary School. They have two children, Jenna Sue and Lauren Kate.

Maynard is actually making a return to LCHS. He served there from 2014-2016 as coordinator of the Freshman Academy before becoming assistant principal at Louisa Middle School from 2016-17. Prior to that, Maynard worked as a special education teacher at Louisa East and was a physical education teacher at Louisa West.

He holds certifications in instructional leadership for all grades, teaching exceptional children and teaching early grades K4-5 Grade and 6 self contained. Additionally, he has served as an assessment coordinator at the building level and on the site based decision making council.

“I’m honored and humbled for the opportunity to serve at LCHS again. I’ve been very blessed to be a part of Lawrence County for the past 17 years and look forward to continuing that service in a new capacity. My goal is to be a resource for the faculty, students, parents, and community in providing a quality education at LCHS,” said Maynard.

He is a graduate of Marshall University with degrees in elementary and special education and a master’s in leadership studies/school administration.

He and his wife Rachel have four children – Tyler, Emma, Abigail, and Isaac.
