Worthington, Ky. — In a rare Saturday night game last night it was Raceland beating Lawrence Co. for the fourth straight season, this time 35-19 at Ram Stadium in front of huge crowd on Hall of Fame night.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Raceland jumped out 21-0 in the first quarter as the Dawgs had trouble moving the ball on their first three possessions of the game. The Rams scored on drives of 17, 29 and 65 yards to seize control of the game.

Lawrence Co. QB Noah West scoring one of his two touchdowns vs Raceland

Lawrence Co. got on the board with a 6 yard touchdown run by QB Noah West his first of two on the night and Caleb Fletcher booted the PAT to cut the lead to 21-7 in the opening minutes of the second quarter.

Raceland would score one more time before the first half was over to make it 28-7 at Halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter the Dawgs mounted a rally and scored twice in the 4th quarter, first on a Jarrett Fairchild 15 yard run and then on a Lawrence Co. Linebacker #6 Caleb Fletcher tackling a Ram running back with #45 Jarrett Fairchild closing in. West 1 yard plunge to make it 28-19.  LC went for two trying to make it a one score game but it failed with just under 4 minutes left in the game.

Raceland would tack on a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to set the final score of 35-19.

West finished with 192 yards and two touchdowns, Ashton Blankenship had 69 yards with most of those in the second half.

Bulldog Head Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENT

“… Yes not the start we would have liked to have. Kids showed a lot of heart in not quitting or getting their heads down. Really proud of the way we battled back. Just couldn’t overcome our early mistakes.”

“… We came out and had a couple mistakes which cost us. They pinned us deep and we didn’t come out like we wanted to. Luckily for us in the second half we came out ready to play. We have to avoid the slow starts, it was similar to our scrimmage at Pikeville last week.”

“… Noah West had an elite effort, he is a physical specimen and our team leader. We are going to put the team on his back but also have to get other kids involved.”
