UTILITY BOARD HEARS SEWER FACILITY PROPOSALS

The Louisa Utility Board met for the monthly meeting Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 6pm in City Hall. Those in attendance were Mayor Harold Slone, Sam Lester Member, Jeff Kinser Member, Steve Lycans Member and Eldred Adams Jr. City Attorney. Absent was Mitch Castle and Heath Preston.

The meeting was called to order after the opening pledge and prayer.
Motion by Jeff Kinser, second by Sam Lester to approve the minutes from the Randy McDaniel the new operator for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, was introduced and welcomed to LouisaJuly 2017 meeting, All were in agreement

Randy McDaniel, the new operator for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, was introduced and welcomed to Louisa. He holds a Class II wastewater treatment operators license and Class II Collection license which is required to manage a system the size of Louisa.

* The Board reviewed the monthly financials. No concerns were voiced.

* The Board heard a presentation from Wastewater systems company CI Thornburg, Inc.

Lazer photos Gine Woods construction and maintenance of water and wastewater systems in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and southern Ohio. It is a family owned company since 1958 and has been trusted for more than 80 years by municipalities, contractors and other customers as the most reliable and dependable source of products and services necessary to the provision of water and wastewater services, their brochure said.

Alex Meadows and Mark Underwood presented a proposal to the Board for consideration.

The company proposed the use of paracetic acid instead of chlorine and chlorine related products for the wastewater plant. They explained that paracetic acid is not only effective in meeting all the state and federal requirements but it is also extremely cost-effective. The Board will review and take up at next meeting.

* The Perfection Group Project should be starting to install new water meters in the next 2 weeks according to an update from the Water/Sewer Project.
Attorney Eldred Adams reported that he is still working on a Master Deed for the 160 easements needed to complete the take-over of the county sewer customers.

* Motion by Jeff Kinser, second by Steve Lycans to apply for the KIA loan for the clean drinking water project for the oldest parts of town. The amount of the loan would be $834,000 of which 50 % would be forgiven and the city would pay the other half at 1.25%.

The City’s website is being worked on now and should be up and running in September. Water bills and related services will be addressed on this site.

The meeting was then adjourned.
