Wireless access will also be shut off during curfew hours
LOUISA – The Lawrence County Board of Education passed a campus curfew at their June meeting, mandating that all unauthorized persons must leave Lawrence County Schools facilities and grounds by 11 p.m. and the campuses remain closed until 5 a.m.
“Most people in our county do a great job of taking care of our school campuses and respecting the safety of others. Unfortunately, we have a few people leaving drug and alcohol paraphernalia in our parking lots as well as committing other acts of vandalism. By implementing a curfew at our schools, law enforcement officials can remove people from our campuses between the hours of 11 PM and 5 AM. This curfew, along with our recently-hired campus night watchman, will hopefully reduce the issues that we are having,” said Lawrence County Schools Superintendent Dr. Robbie Fletcher.
Fletcher pointed out that access to the Lawrence County High School and Blaine School walking track areas is still permitted during late hours for legitimate exercise purposes.
“Our recommendation is for members of the public to follow the school’s policy regarding curfew. If someone is there and it is after hours, they will be cited for criminal trespassing,” said Louisa Police Department Chief Greg Fugitt.
A night watchman has been hired in order to patrol and ensure security. The Lawrence County Schools’ wireless access will also be shut off during those hours, according to Information and Technology Officer Thomas Burns.
