WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT REPORT

June 26, 2017

Corey Harless is lodged at the WRJ on 4 cases from Wayne Co. with a bond of $15,000 and 2 cases out of Cabell County with a bond of $35,000Sheriff Rick Thompson announced the arrest of Corey Harless, age 39 of Wayne following a BOLO (be on the look out) with a description of Harless and the vehicle he was believed to be traveling in.

Harless is accused of breaking into vehicles (one of which occurred on Lynn Creek Road at Lavalette in Wayne County and Green Valley of Rt. 10 in Cabell County) and stealing items over at least a month’s period. It is believed that the break-ins occurred over an area that spanned throughout Wayne and Cabell Counties in WV and possibly as far away as Lawrence County in Ohio and Boyd County in Kentucky.

On Friday the BOLO was sent to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the local detachment of the WVSP. Deputies and State Troopers had looked for said vehicle for several days and on Friday morning, June 23 a Wayne County Deputy spotted the vehicle on Rt. 152 approximately 3 miles north of the town of Wayne. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy recognized the driver as the suspect. The deputy noticed multiple wallets, cell phones and other items described in criminal complaints filed in association with the case. He notified local 911 and additional deputies as well as WVSP responded. Corey Harless was arrested.

After questioning suspect, a search warrant was issued for his residence in Wayne where additional evidence was found.

Harless was taken the WRJ where he was booked and a bond set at $15,000. Sheriff Thompson says that this is an ongoing investigation and he expects more charges will be filed in this case.
