League Results for May 16, 2017

The Eagle Ridge Golf course was in excellent condition on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The Bermuda grass fairways have turned to its summer lushness, and they are beautiful. The greens are picking up speed, and Rodney has done an excellent job. The temperature was hot and humid but welcomed after last week’s monsoon that rained out the round and Missy’s golf lessons.

The league is now four weeks into the season, well actually five since the score on Tuesday starts a new four-week cycle. Many may recall that we had three golfers in the league that had one handicap. Things have now changed, as they always do in the first of the season. Some of the players were rusty others were at the top of their game. I knew that we were not going to hold that one handicap for the three players through the first month. The scores usually level out after the second four-week period of the league, and this is when you get a more accurate handicap for the players. However, I must remark on our Troy Hughes. He is now carrying a minus one handicap. This is the second time in our league history that someone was caring a minus handicap. This was Joey Stepp. It certainly makes you feel good to carry a handicap like that, but it is tough to win points giving all players an additional stroke.

The 2017 points leaders after one month of play, are as follows: in first place is Charlie Curnutte with 12 points, in 2nd place, John Chaffin with 10½ points, and three golfers have tied with 10 points, Troy Hughes, J Lynn See, and Dean Steinbring. It is early in the year, but the players enjoy watching their standings.

This was another big week for Dan Preece in the scores and skills competition. Dan won 5 of the eight offerings.

Now for Tuesday night’s results.

I’ll see you at the course on Tuesday, May 25!
