A significant mudslide Friday night near Louisa is causing a traffic headache for residents as the a roadway section had to be closed, and has remained closed all night and will be closed for an unknown time period for the near future.

KY Route 1690 is closed from Donathon Road west going toward Louisa for about one half mile due to a landslide that is impacting the roadway.

The mudslide is still active and many trees and power lines could possibly yet come down

State Highway crews were to be continuing working on the slide Saturday morning but it is unknown at this time how long the roadway will be closed.

The slide was likely caused by the heavy rains that have fallen in Lawrence County in recent days, with the are area placed under flood watch as an estimated 6 to 9 inches of rain that fell from Tuesday night thru Friday night to early overnight Saturday morning.

Luckily there was no severe flooding for the county, though some minor issues were reported, including water covering Old Lick Creek Road in Louisa, water over the roadway one south of Ky. 1 in Webbviile, and high and fast flowing water in the Fallsburg creek areas.

There was also several trees reported down blocking the roadway and were on the verge of breaking power and telephone lines on Five Forks Hill Road Friday afternoon.

But it looks like that the lot of rainy and cooler than normal weather we have had for the past week and a half are over, as we dry out and stay at pleasant temperatures for today, and also for Sunday, and Monday, with unfortunately hot 90 degree weather like we had two weekends ago arriving on Tuesday, that will last for the following several days through until next weekend into in the week of Monday, May 22. See on our Weather Report on the main page by the National Weather Service HERE.
