Gladys Skaggs

1936 — 2017

Gladys Skaggs age 80 of Martha, Ky departed this life on April 10, 2017 at her home and went on to be with the Lord and those whose gone on before her in her new Heavenly Home.

She was born on  April 14, 1936 in Lawrence County, Ky to the late John Marti  Sparks and Della May Fyffe Sparks. Gladys was a homemaker and a member of Elizabeth Enterprise Baptist Church at Martha, Ky.

Survivors include James Russell Skaggs, Barbara (Elmer) Hall, Wilbert “Herbert” (herby Jr) Lois Skaggs all of Martha, Ky. She is also survived by a sister Ada Sparks of Martha, Ky. Along with this Gladys is survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

Besides her parents Gladys is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Wilbur Skaggs. She is also preceded in death by one daughter Dianna Carol Keeton also three sisters Carrie Sparks, Grettie Sparks, Arlene Gratin also one great great grandchild.

Gladys loved her family and had a very large love for life. She enjoyed all the work she done throughout her life where before becoming sick she was a mail carrier and then a baby sitter. If Gladys wasn’t working out of the home she could be found doing some of her favorite past times quilting, knitting, crocheting, gardening or cooking and if you couldn’t find her here you were sure to find her at her sister Ada’s where there was no TV but you could find them sitting making memories or reminiscing listening to nothing but the radio. If she could say one thing to each of you today it would be not to weep for her that she’s in no more pain and she’s walking streets of gold where not only did Jesus welcome her in but Wilbur now has her in his arms to forever hold. The last thing she would want you to know is that when it’s your time to go do whatever it takes to make Heaven your forever home. This isn’t a goodbye from her but a don’t you cry for I’ll be looking down on you from my mansion in the sky…

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Elizabeth Enterprise Baptist Church with Pastor Emmitt Barker officiating. Burial will follow at the Skaggs Cemetery, Martha, Ky.

Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Young Funeral Home and after 11:00 am Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Elizabeth Enterprise Baptist Church.

Online condolences may be left for the family at http://www.youngfuneralhomeinc.com/
