Tax Hearing Notice

The Lawrence County Board of Education will hold a public hearing at the Lawrence County High School Library located at 100 Bulldog Lane, Louisa, Kentucky on March 15, 2017 at 5:30 PM to hear public comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 54.3 cents on real property and 57.1 cents on personal property.

The General Fund tax levied in fiscal year 2015 – 2016 was 52 cents on real property and 52 cents on personal property and produced revenue of $4,433,736.  The proposed General Fund tax rate of 54.3 cents on real property and 57.1 cents on personal property is expected to produce $4,612,020.79.  Of this amount $1,141,698.84 is from new and personal property.  The compensating tax for 2017 is 47.4 cents on real property and 51.7 cents on personal property and is expected to produce $4,061,975.90.

The general areas to which revenue of $178,284.79 above 2015 – 2016 revenue is to be allocated are as follows: Cost of collections, $5,348 and building fund, $172,936.79.

2.A.1. Per diem and expenses for members present at the Tax Hearing special meeting on March 15, 2017, per diem and expenses for members present at required trainings at the 2017 KSBA Annual Conference on February 24, 25, and 26, as allowed, and per diem for members present at this special meeting

2.A.2. Blaine Elementary: Intent to apply and Steele Reese Grant Application; Stephanie Cordle, Librarian/Media Specialist

2.A.3. Lawrence County High School: Intent to apply and Steele Reese Grant Application; Kim Cecil, Librarian/Media Specialist

2.A.4. Use of Facilities: LCHS football field/practice field for KY Youth Soccer through June 30, 2017; proof of insurance provided; Scott Johnson

2.A.5. Fundraisers: Lawrence County High School

2.A.6. Fundraiser: Louisa West Elementary School

2.B. “Nickel Equivalent” Tax Levy

Approve the Lawrence County Board of Education to adopt an additional five cents ($.05) equivalent tax rate on real and personal property, which will produce an equivalent revenue of five cents ($.05) per one hundred dollars ($100) of property assessed.  For the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the District’s 5 cent equivalent rate is 5.1 cents, which when applied to the current rate brings the total real property rate to 54.3 cents for Real Estate and 57.1 cents for Personal Property.  The District’s five cents ($.05) equivalent rate changes each fiscal year and may be higher or lower when applied to future tax bills. The District will not begin collecting the additional revenue from this levy until the 2017-2018 tax year.  The revenue produced by this increase will be dedicated to major renovation of existing school facilities, new construction, and debt service.
