Robert Martin Thompson

1929 – 2017

Robert Martin “Bob” Thompson, 87 of Fort Gay passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington.

Bob was born on May 22, 1929 in Virginia to the late Thomas B. and Goldie Sammons-Thompson. He was a Machine Operator for the Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Away.

In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his wife Athilie Rutherford-Thompson and two sisters Dorothy Thompson and Eva Thompson.

He leaves behind a loving family including his son Ronald Martin Thompson (Judy) of Mt. Clair, WV; his daughter Brenda Joyce Thompson-Hughes of Louisa; six grandchildren Shawn (Jenny) Hughes, Nick (Stephanie) Hughes, Jesse (Lori) Thompson, Jeremy (Samira) Thompson, Travis (Stephanie) Hughes and Chad (Alena) Hughes; seven great grandchildren; three brothers Jack (Mary) Thompson, Dan Thompson and Lee Thompson; one sister Virginia Damron as well as many extended family members and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.

There will be no visitation or public services at this time. There will be a private burial for the family at a later date.
