Louisa, Ky. —  Lawrence Co. ( 10-5 ) hadn’t played a home game in almost a month, but after a slow start the Dawgs put on a show in front of a nice crowd as they rolled to a 79-50 victory over Raceland ( 2-11 ) on Tuesday night. The defensive effort might of been the best of the season so far for the Dawgs, coach Travis York said.

LC fell behind 14-10 before going on a 10-0 run to end the 1st period. That run continued in the 2nd as the Dawgs led 40-22 at halftime. Lawrence Co. defense gave the Rams guards fits all night which led to easy baskets for the Dawgs.

Lawrence Co. placed three players in double figures including a game high 39 from the nation’s leading scorer senior Timmy Dalton. Jared Wellman tallied 17 points, Trey Dotson chipped in with 10 points, Tyler Maynard had 5 points, Cameron Maynard, Alex Gilliam, and Alex Ratliff had 2 points each. The Dawgs went 7-11 from the charity stripe.

Lawrence Co. will be in action this weekend as they play in the Marvin Meredith Classic Saturday at Russell vs Lewis Co. at 7:00pm.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis York

‘COACH’S COMMENTS

“… We have put in a couple different things on defense and it showed tonight. We have never been a great defensive team but we are fast, athletic and we have to turn teams over and cause havoc out there, Raceland likes to slow the pace and we tried to speed them up and take them out of their offense.” Felt like we were well rested from not playing but rusty at the beginning as well once we got our legs under us and settled down we were ok.” We have Lewis Co. this weekend and after playing them twice so far they know more about us then anyone so it should be a challenge.”

Lawrence Co. 8th Grader Jared Wellman

“… It felt good to get back out there with my teammates, we were a little rusty at the beginning but once we got the momentum it was our game.” Defense was the key tonight we tried to get into passing lanes and disrupt their offense. Timmy makes it easier for us out on the court and love playing with him, he is a great leader.”
