Kentucky State Police Post 14 Ashland Investigating Fatal Shooting

Lawrence County

Ronald Jackson Robinson

Ashland, Ky. (August 13, 2016) – The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a shooting that occurred on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at approximately 6:36 pm at 128 Aspen Drive in Lawrence County, KY.

Troopers responded to the residence after Lawrence County 911 received a report of a shooting between a father (Chester Robinson) and son (Ronald Robinson).  Post 14 Troopers arrived at the Robinson residence and located Ronald Robinson, age 40, of Louisa, injured with several gunshot wounds.  Ronald Robinson was initially transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.  An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday December 28, 2016 at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

During the course of the investigation it was determined Chester Robinson, age 68, of Louisa had been engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with his son Ronald Robinson.  During the altercation Ronald Robinson, who was armed with a firearm, exited the residence and continued making threats to kill his father while firing shots outside the residence.  During the time Ronald was out of the residence Chester Robinson was able arm himself with a firearm.  Ronald Robinson, who was still armed with a firearm, forcefully entered the residence by kicking the door in and was shot several times by Chester Robinson.

At this time no criminal charges have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.

The following agencies responded and assisted during the course of the investigation: Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Air Methods, Net Care EMS, Fallsburg Fire Department, and Lawrence County Emergency Management.

Case remains under investigation by Detective Daniel Cook.
