NO MENTION OF BUDGET WOES AT MEETING
During the public comments part of the Lawrence Fiscal Court meeting yesterday audience member Joey Endicott remarked that since the landfill had raised dumping fees, he was seeking approval from the Court for Lawrence County TO CHARGE RESIDENTS HE PICKS UP TRASH FOR THROUGH THE COUNTY’S SOLID WASTE PLAN, a $2 dollars a month increase.
The Court agreed to hold a special meeting within the next couple of weeks when all the county’s garbage haulers could attend.
The Lawrence Co. Fiscal Court met for its monthly meeting Tuesday, December 20, 2016. After the opening prayer and the pledge the County Judge Executive called the meeting to order.
All members of the Court were in attendance. There were twenty-two items on the agenda. All items and motions were carried and approved by the Court.
* The minutes of the November 15, 2016 meeting were approved.
* Approved – 1st reading of the Budget Amendment, Treasurer’s Request, Bills and Treasurer’s Report
* Approved – County Clerk ‘s 2017 Budget
* There were several bids on county surplus items and they were awarded during the meeting.
* Approved – Proclamation recognizing January 22-28, 2017 Lawrence County School Choice Week
Approved – Resolution to participate in KY Mountain Region Recreation Authority
* Appointed Catrina Vargo and Susie Chambers to LC Tourism Board
* Appointed John Wellman to Planning and Zoning Board
* Appointed Emmett Barker to LC Cemetary Board
* Re-appointed Diane Watson to the Big Sandy Regional Jail Board
* Appointed – Joyce Frazier to the Fred M Vinson Comm. Board
* Appointed Michelle Short to the LC Recreation Board
County economic development representative Catrina Vargo updated the Court on Economic Development in the county. She presented the Court with a 2 yr report on Lawrence Co. Economic Development from July 2014 to July 2016.
Vargo supplied the Court specific information on tourism, economic development, education, training, downtown renovation and community development. She has developed and maintained several new relationships vital to the community’s growth. Judge Osborne stated ” Ms Vargo has done a wonderful job”.
The meeting was then adjourned.
