SCHS WINS ZIP ZONE MATCHUP WITH 16 REGION FAVORITE ELLIOTT CO.

 Louisa, Ky. —  In the annual Zip Zone Classic hosted by Sheldon Clark High School in Martin County,  those in attendance were treated to eight highly entertaining basketball games this past Saturday at Lawrence Co. high school. The games started at 10:30 am and finished up after 10:00 on Saturday night.

There were teams all around the state of Kentucky and two Prep schools one from West Virginia and the other from Virginia. The Zip Zone has been played at LCHS’ gymnasium for the past three or four years because the Martin Co. High School was condemned after being damaged by blasting for a new highway there. 

Sheldon Clark 48 Lawrence Co. 40 ( Girls ) 

Sheldon Clark's 6'6" senior Dylan James scores two of his game high 34 in the annual Zip Zone Classic played at LCHS.In the first game of the day and the only girls matchup of the event it was Sheldon Clark winning the early season scrimmage in a low scoring game. Both teams really got after it in the early morning tilt. Sheldon Clark senior Hope Lafferty poured in 23 points to lead the way for the Lady Cards.

Hannah Scott tallied 7 points, Paige Maynard scored 6 points, Madison Thompson had 4 points and 17 rebounds, Fallyne Wefenstette and Madison Preston chipped in with 4 points apiece. Lexie Ratliff lead the Lady Dawgs with 14 points and 7 boards, Kassidy Cavins tallied 8 points, Sheree Hay had 5 points, Hannah Rucker 4 points, Kylie Maynard and Kelly Davis chipped in with 3 points apiece. 

Lawrence Co. will open the regular season Tuesday night at Rose Hill.

Sheldon Clark will open at Home vs Allen Central on Tuesday night.

Sheldon Clark senior Dylan James hit a 18 footer with 4 seconds left propel the Cards to the win in probably the best game of the day.

James poured in a game high 34 points, David Cantrell tallied 15 points, Ethan Osborne had 13 points, Brad Dalton chipped in with 5 points, Brady Dingess, Trey James, and Shawn Moore had 3 points each. Chase Porter poured in 26 points for the 16th Region favorite Lions, Korbin Spencer tallied 19 points, Tanner Dickerson and Gage Evans 9 apiece, Austin Porter 6 and Kole Whitley chipped in with 4 points. 

Elliott Co. will open the regular season at Home vs Raceland on Tuesday night.

Sheldon Clark will open the regular season at Powell Co. on Thursday night. 

Johnson Central 82 Clark Co. 81 

 JC Senior Mason Blair hit a long three pointer at the buzzer to be former Lawrence Co. coach Josh Cook and his Cards. Blair finished with 29 points, Cole Crace had 23 points, Jacob Rice had 12 points and 8 rebounds, Dalton Collins finished with  points, Austin Davis tallied 6 and  the German 7 foot transfer Leon Moshefy chipped in with 5 points. Ryan Cooper led GRC with 23 points.

Johnson Central will open up regular season play Tuesday night at Greenup Co.

Christian Co., coached by former Sheldon Clark coach Frankie Smith opened up the boys action with a victory over Lexington Catholic. 

Louisville Ballard beat North Laurel and Louisville Trinity took care of Scott Co.

In the Prep school game it was Huntington Prep beating Virginia Episcopal 82-68 behind Florida signee Chase Johnson and highly touted junior Keldon Johnson.
