Dawg Senior Timmy Dalton going in for a layup vs Shelby Valley in the Zip Zone Classic

Louisa, Ky. —  In the annual Zip Zone Classic it was Lawrence Co. getting the win 62-48 over Shelby Valley in the last game of the action packed event held at Lawrence Co. on Saturday. There were 8 games played on Saturday in the event many call the best high school preseason event in the state of Kentucky.

Lawrence Co. 62 Shelby Valley 48

LC Senior Timmy Dalton was the leading scorer for the Dawgs as he poured in 33 points in the victory. Lawrence Co. led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter by attacking the basket and not settling for jump shots which will be a key this season.

Junior sharpshooter Trey Dotson had 9 points all on three pointers, 8th Grader Jared Wellman tallied 7 points, Junior Alex Gilliam scored 6 points, Senior Cameron Maynard had 3, Junior Weston Hardin and Freshman Tyler Maynard scored two each.

Lawrence Co. will open the regular season tonight at Morgan Co. and the home opener will be Tuesday night vs East Carter.

Other games in the Zip Zone Classic:

Johnson Central 82 Clark Co. 81

JC Senior Mason Blair hit a long three pointer at the buzzer to beat former Lawrence Co. coach Josh Cook and his Clark County Cards. Blair finished with 29 points, Cole Crace had 23 points, Jacob Rice had 12 points and 8 rebounds, Dalton Collins finished with  points, Austin Davis tallied 6 and German 7 foot transfer Leon Moshefy chipped in with 5 points.

Ryan Cooper led Clark Co. with 23 points.

Johnson Central will open up regular season play Tuesday night at Greenup Co.

Christian Co., coached by former Sheldon Clark coach Frankie Smith, opened up the boys action with a victory over Lexington Catholic.

Louisville Ballard beat North Laurel and Louisville Trinity took care of Scott Co.

In the Prep school game it was Huntington Prep beating Virginia Episcopal 82-68 behind Florida signee Chase Johnson and highly touted junior Keldon Johnson.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Melinda Feltner

Coach’s Comment

“… They really slowed us down and that’s not our style we need to play fast and try and get easy baskets. Down 3 with four minutes to go and just misses some easy chances down the stretch.” We had open looks and just couldn’t knock them down. We are not good at all in the half court right now.” Ready for the regular season to get going.”

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Travis York

Coach’s comment

“… Really good effort on our part, I thought the kids played really hard. We got the big lead and we kinda went stagnant on offense and they started to make some three’s.”  Overall good to see us get some things done. Big week coming up with three games in a row to start the week.”
