A  massive motor vehicle accident at the intersection of US 23 and Route 645 in Lawrence County has killed two individuals and shut down traffic in both directions for both US 23 and Route 645 in the Lowmansville area.

Sheriff’s report:

This morning at 6:16 am the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of US 23 and KY 645.

Information at the scene indicates that a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by a Vernal Wiley, 58 of Inez, KY was traveling West on US 645 and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection of US 23 pulling into the path of a south bound 2004 Kenworth driven by Brian Jenkins, 39, of Princeton, WV.

Mr. Wiley and a passenger in his vehicle Justin Wiley, 30, also of Inez, KY were pronounced deceased at the scene. Jenkins was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center.

The collision is under investigation by Deputy Mason Keefer and Sgt Chuck Jackson. Assisting at
the scene was Netcare Ambulance, Lowmansville Fire Department and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.

County and state road crews, along with law enforcement, say the roadway will be periodically closed throughout the morning while they investigate. The accident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police and the Lawrence County Sheriff Department.

This is the second major accident in less than 24 hours in the local area, as there was also another two vehicle car accident, which occurred on Route 2565 in Louisa Tuesday afternoon that resulted in multiple injuries.

Stay tuned to the Levisa Lazer thru out today as we gather more information on both this morning’s double fatality wreck in Lomansville, and also yesterday’s accident in Louisa.
