Young Women’s Conference Announces Speakers

Area women will share their experiences and advice for success at the 3rd annual Young Women Lead Conference October 11 and 12 at Ashland Community and Technical College.

They will join keynote speaker Julie Marie Carrier in presenting a leadership, education and development tips to high-school junior girls from Eastern Kentucky. 

Nikki Bryant, a retired Super Middleweight Professional World Champion Boxer, will be the General Session speaker. She is now an Associate Professor and Pharmacy Program Coordinator at ACTC and will speak on the topic, “Be Extraordinary.” 

“Be Love” is the topic for Sydnee Baker MSW, CSW, a Foster Care Therapist at NECCO.

“So You Want to Be a Veterinarian’ is the subject for Amy Bess, DVM, veterinarian with Bellefonte Animal Clinic, and her daughter Kathryn, a Russell High School senior.

“Empowered to be Different” is the topic for Kendra Brown, Policy Director at the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus.

“Where I’m going, Where I’m From” is the topic for Sarah Diamond Burroway, Director of Grants & Contracts at ACTC. 

“Getting Ahead by Giving: How Volunteerism and Advocacy Work Can Help You While Helping Others” is the subject for Jerri Compton, Executive Director at United Way of Northeast Kentucky.

“The ABC’s of the Arts is the topic for Melanie Cornelison, Artistic Director at Paramount Arts Center. 

“Weird Science: Extract Your Own DNA from Home” is the topic for Ashley Cox, ACTC Biology Instructor.

“Teen Dating Violence: Is My Relationship Healthy” is the topic for Kelsey Crowe, a Child Advocate at Safe Harbor of Northeast KY.

“The Stellar Path to Space Science in College” is the topic for Kennedy Haught, a student at Morehead State University’s Space Science Center.

“Stranger Safety Education Program” is the topic for Lynne Glenn and Keith Herron, Sr. from the Stranger Safety Education Program at The Child Connection, Inc.

“We Have Come a Long Way Baby” is the topic for Titine Lawlis, MSCJ, a paralegal at Divine Justice and part-time ACTC Criminal Justice Instructor.

“Pivot Like Pacman: The Winding Road to Success and Staying Happy along The Way” is the topic for Mae Marks, Business Outreach Manager at Oldham Chamber & Economic Development.

“Interviewing Skills” is the topic for Katie McKnight, Senior Human Resources Consultant at Marathon Petroleum Company.

“The Power of Yoga” is the topic for Kathy Lynn Mejia, Certified RYT 200 Yoga Instructor and owner of Eternal Yoga and Pilates.

“Let’s Go Places! Careers at Toyota” is the topic for Kim Sweazy, External Affairs / Community Relations Specialist, and Katherine Mulloy from Toyota Motor Manufacturing KY, Inc. 

“Be Confident, Be Beautiful” is the topic for Amber Weddington, ACTC Human Resource Specialist.

The Emcee will be Julie Reeves, radio host on 93.7 The Dawg and a former Virgin Records country recording star.

The conference is sponsored primarily by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. in partnership with ACTC, SOAR and local organizations. Registration is thorough high school counselors in Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Greenup, Lawrence, Lewis and Rowan counties.
