HAGER HILL, Ky. – Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s (BSCTC) Workforce Solutions division has partnered with the Kentucky Trucking Association to enhance curriculum for those seeking commercial driving licensures (CDL).
Leo Fell, Jr., instructor of the CDL program at BSCTC, said the college and officials with the KTA have worked for over a year to bring more opportunities to those seeking a CDL credential.
“Our goal was to elevate the quality of training and allow additional pathways for those seeking a license,” said Fell.
Until last month, BSCTC was the only Kentucky Community and Technical College (KCTCS) school to offer CDL instruction not operated by a third party. Hopkinsville Community and Technical College, through the assistance of BSCTC, launched their new and revamped CDL program on June 27.
“Like all industries, the trucking industry has experienced a lot of change,” added Fell. “With our curriculum, drivers can explore multiple pathways, including an associate degree.”
Kelli Hall, dean of career education and workforce development at BSCTC, said Fell has set the standard for others to follow.
“Leo has a passion for our students and making sure that the training they receive is comprehensive and prepares them for a rewarding career,” said Hall. “We are proud of the work we are doing, and I am glad that our thorough approach to delivering our CDL program is being recognized.”
