Substitute teacher had sex with two 16 year-old boys, KSP charges
Kentucky State Police arrested a Carlisle County substitute teacher Monday after investigating allegations that she had inappropriate sexual contact with two male students.
Police said they received a report June 28 alleging Kasey Warren, 27, of Bardwell had sex with two 16-year-old male students in McCracken County.
Warren was indicted by a McCracken County grand jury Friday on three counts of third-degree rape and three counts of third-degree sodomy. She turned herself in to police on Monday.
KSP spokesperson Michael Robichaud said although the boys are of legal age to consent, Warren abused her position of power, resulting in the rape charges.
“They’re 16 (years old) so technically they’re of legal age to have sex,” he said. “So where the third-degree rape charges come in is from her being in position of power. It’s the same charge that would go to a jail guard for having sex with an inmate or something like that. Because she was in a position of power over the boys, they could not legally consent to having sex.”
Kentucky law applies a charge of third-degree rape when “a person in a position of authority or position of special trust â ¦ engages in sexual intercourse with a minor under eighteen (18) years old with whom he or she comes into contact as a result of that position.”
Robichaud said Warren was hired by the Carlisle County school system in January, and she started teaching on a limited basis on March 1. Toward the end of the 2015-2016 school year, she was made a “long-term” substitute, he said.
Police said Warren met the boys while she was teaching and estimate the incidents of sexual contact happened between March 1 and June 28.
She is no longer employed by the school system, they said.
Warren is being held at McCracken County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond. She is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 15.
