Deputy remains in hospital with non life threatening injuries
MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – The alleged driver of the car that rammed a police cruiser was arrested Saturday morning. Officials say Billy Greer turned himself in to Kentucky State Police.
According to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center’s website, Billy Greer is facing charges for assaulting a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident, and public intoxication.
Sheriff John Kirk says a Martin County Sheriff’s deputy is in the hospital after his cruiser was rammed several times late Friday night.
It happened after an altercation at the IGA store in Warfield involving three people, a cashier and the store manager.
Kirk said a gun was pulled, then the three suspects took off.
The driver of the vehicle, who the sheriff identified as Billy Greer, called 911 asking for a deputy to meet him to try to explain his side of the story. When Chief Deputy Paul Witten responded, Billy Greer started ramming the police cruiser on the driver’s side — totaling it, the sheriff said.
Witten remains in the hospital. Sheriff Kirk believes his injuries are non-life-threatening.
