Lazer asks for order of county layoffs
TheLevisalazer.com has asked county judge/executive John Osborne for a list of how layoff slips will be handed out this month. Osborne informed the public at Tuesday’s regular fiscal court meeting that the county will lay off employees to make up for deficits in the Jail Fund and the 9-11 budget totalling about $400,000.
Will the layoffs be across the board in all county departments? Or will is be non-essential first or will it be by years of service? Ior will it be by political connections?

Cost of family plan health insurace also listed
LOUISA, Ky. After County Treasurer Sabrina Cantrell told fiscal court members this month that they have $400,000 less to operate on this year, The Lazer asked for a list of county salaries and the cost of paying for employee and family plan health insurance on the entire county workforce including elected officials. Ms. Cantrell sent the following report.
Ms. Cantrell noted that fee offices such as the sheriff and county clerk pay their salaries out of their own budgets which are for collecting taxes but the county pays matching retirement, social security, medicare and insurance for these wages for their employees. The county attorney’s salary is supplemented by a state salary of about the same amount listed that the county pays. Cantrell did not provide a figure for those payments. She sent the cost of paying health insurance on all public officials, employees and their families which comes to $288,154 per year (see below).
