City council. 6 16 2016- FROM LEFT, MITCH CASTLE, RON CORDLE, GLORIA JOHNSON, MAYOR HAROLD SLONE, LISA SCHAEFFER AND ANGELA MCGUIRE

The June meeting of the Louisa City Council was short and sweet, with Second readings of the city’s annual budget dominating the agenda.

Mayor Harold Slone began the meeting by updating council and the public on current projects taking place around town, including the newly renovated basketball court and the ongoing renovation of Main Street Park.

Mayor Slone also provided council with this year’s current Revenue from the City Pool, which in just over 2 weeks, it has generated nearly $15,000 in revenue, and had nearly 1,500 general admissions, which Slone noted, is nearly triple the admissions from last year, which was partially attributed to School’s being on Summer Vacation earlier this year.

Slone also provided updates on the baby swing at Lockview Park. “ The baby swing was dangerous,” Slone said. “Crews removed the old baby swing and with donations from Louisa Rotary and AEP, a new swing was purchased and will be delivered later this week.”

The June meeting was the second reading of the City’s budget for the 2016/2017 fiscal year. The budgets all passed with the vote being cast as follows:

  1. 2016/2017 fiscal year Louisa City Budget, All members Yes.
  2. 2016/2017 fiscal year Louisa Water and Sewer Dept. Budget. All Members yes, Angela McGuire abstained.
  3. 2016/2017 fiscal year Compensation of City Employees Budget, All Members yes, Angela McGuire abstained.
  4. 2016/2017 fiscal year,  Compensation of Water and Sewer Department employees Budget, All Members yes, Angela McGuire abstained.

The only new order of business was an ordinance establishing the date and time for the meetings of the Louisa Utility Board. Meetings to be held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Council passed the ordinance 4-1, Gloria Johnson Voting no.

Council then went into executive session to discuss 3 items of litigation. No action was taken.

Council Member Tom Parsons was not present.
