LOUISA CITY COUNCIL RE-PASSES FIRST READING ON MEDICAL CANNABIS, TALKS SPEED BUMPS

The Louisa City Council met on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at Louisa City Hall, 215 N.Main Cross Street, Louisa, Kentucky at 6PM. Mayor of Louisa Harold Slone was in attendance along with city council members Joey McClanahan, Gary Robertson, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester, Coty Roe and Keith Chaffin.

MEDICAL CANNABIS

The Louisa City Council passed the First Reading to approve Medical Cannabis sales inside the city limits by licensed cultivators or dealers. The approval is the latest voting on the issue as the council passed the same policy as the first one that was “put on hold” until after seeing county action on the issue. County and city voters all chose either for or against the issue a week ago with a resounding “yes” on the ballots.

Lawrence County officials have not met since the election but are expected to vote on it next week in their regular November meeting.

A Motion was made by Joey McClanahan and seconded by Gary Robertson. None Opposed.

MAYOR CONGRATULATES COUNCIL MEMBERS ON ELECTION WINS 


Mayor Slone Congratulated everyone for winning the November election 2024. Gary Robertson did not run in the election and will be replaced by Kayla Brown who will be sworn in at the next meeting in December 2024, the mayor said. She will officially take office in January.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Mayor Slone said the attempted litigation is no longer on the table for the city of Louisa. Also, No official action on said property for now were both discussed during Executive Session.

2. Approve Minutes for October 8, 2024 – Motion by Coty Roe 2nd by Keith Chaffin. None Opposed.
3. October Budget Report – No discussion

New Business
4. Medical Cannabis – Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Gary Robertson. None Opposed.

5. Council Comments –

Coty Roe inquired about the stop signs being put up in the Louisa area. Rose Lester brought up humps for the streets of Louisa. Both said they are concerned about safety within the city limits. Ms. Lester is particularly interested in humps or bumps for Lady Washington Street.

Chief of Police Greg Fugitt gave a collision report to everyone showing the last collision reported on Lady Washington street was in 2022. The information packet distributed to those present outlines the present city ordinance concerning speed bumps, their location and effectiveness.

No vote was taken on the issue.

7. Executive Session – Discussion on attempted litigation and no action on said property.
8. Adjourn – Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Caleb Farley

The next Regular Scheduled Meeting will be on Tuesday December 10, 2024 at Louisa City Hall at 6PM.
