SHE ALLEGEDLY CAUSED DEADLY DUI CRASH: SARAH CAITLYN SPURLING, 33, FROM LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY; WAS ARRESTED  BY KY. STATE POLICE INN MAGOFFIN COUNTY ON FRIDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 4, AFTER REPORTEDLY DRIVING DRUNK AND CAUSED A THREE VEHICLE COLLISION THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A MAN IN THE CAR SHE STRUCK, ROGER ARNETT, 64, OF SALYERSVILLE, KY.

A Jefferson County, Kentucky woman is in jail, after police accused her of being intoxicated when she was involved in a fatal three vehicle collision crash.

According to the news release from the Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville, they reported that the crash happened just before 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, October 4, on Route 114 in Magoffin County, KY.

When Kentucky State Police Post 9 troopers arrived at the crash scene, they found one of the drivers, Sarah Caitlyn Spurling, 33, of Louisville, KY., sitting on the ground.

When a state trooper asked Sarah Spurling how the crash happened, Ms. Spurling told them she was driving and talking to her daughter on the phone. Ms. Spurling further said she looked away from the road briefly and when she looked back, she saw a car, who was later identified as Roger Arnett, 64, of Salyersville, KY., had stopped in front of her.

Sarah Spurling said she tried to stop, but she ran into the back of Roger Arnett’s vehicle and knocked it into the oncoming lane, where it was hit by another car.

Roger Arnett was later pronounced dead at Paintsville ARH Hospital in Johnson County.

Sarah Spurling told state police troopers  she had drunk one beer about five hours before the crash, but the arresting trooper noted she was lethargic and slurring her words, and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from her. Sarah Spurling refused a chemical test, but KSP 9 troopers obtained a search warrant for her blood.

Sarah Caitlyn Spurling was arrested by KSP Post 9 trooper Michael McKinney, and was charged with:

 * VEHICULAR HOMICIDE WHEN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL,

 *OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER/INFLUENCE ALCOHOL .08 (189A.010(1A) – 1ST OFFENSE (AGGRAVATING CIRCUMSTANCES),

*WANTON ENDANGERMENT-1ST DEGREE. Sara Spurling is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville, on a $250,000 full cash bond only.
