FLOYD COUNTY, KENTUCKY MAN ARRESTED IN JOHNSON COUNTY AFTER POLICE, INVESTIGATING AN APARTMENT BURGLARY CASE, REVEALS POTENTIAL SUSPECT WAS ACTUALLY SEX OFFENDER WHO WAS NON-COMPLIANT WITH STATE REGISTRATION

CONVCITED OF FELONY RAPE IN 2008; SUSPECT ALSO HAD ACTIVE ARREST WARRANT FOR HIM OUT OF FLOYD COUNTY

THE UNKNOWN CRIMINAL SEX OFFENDER PERVERT NEXT DOOR: MICHAEL ANTHONY MARCUM, 51, OF WHEELWRIGHT, KENTUCKY; ARRESTED IN JOHNSON COUNTY, KY. ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 23 FOR VIOLATING THE REGISTRATION.

What started as a burglary case investigation by a Johnson County deputy and a Kentucky State Police trooper in the Paintsville area ended up arresting a Floyd County male sex offender for failing to maintain his registration requirements.

According to the arrest report, Johnson County Sheriff Office deputy Nathan Collins, along with Kentucky State Police Post 9 Pikeville trooper Tracy Salyers, were investigating a burglary at the Perry Vanhoose Apartments in Wittensville community, near Paintsville, KY., late Friday morning, August 23, and identified Michael Anthony Marcum, 51, of Correctional Drive, of Wheelwright, Kentucky; as a person of interest in the burglary case.

While talking to Michael Marcum, they discovered he was wanted on a warrant out of Floyd County, KY. They also learned that he was a sex offender whose last reported address was a homeless shelter in Lexington, not the apartment in Paintsville where he had been living with a woman;specifically they found that the apartment manager had issued a trespass notice to the female tenant who was alleged to be living with Michael Marcum.

Both deputy Collins and trooper Salyer made contact with Michael Marcum near the apartment there and discovered that he had the active bench warrant in Floyd County and made an arrest, only discovering his non-compliance with sex offender registration after booking him at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, the citation said. Micael Marcum had previously registered as being homeless in Fayette County and did not update the registration to reflect that he was living at the apartment complex in Johnson County.

Michael Marcum was convicted of third-degree rape of a 16-year-old victim in Pike County, KY., back in 2008. He was given a suspended sentence in the case, but he was ordered to register as a sex offender for 20 years.

Michael Anthony Marcum was arrested by deputy Nathan Collins, and he was charged with:

  • FAILURE TO COMPLY W/SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION (1ST OFFENSE); which could earn him another 1-to-5 years in prison, if he is convicted. He was also charged with:
  • CONTEMPT OF COURT LIBEL/SLANDER RESISTANCE TO ORDER; in connection with the Floyd County active warrant.

Michael Marcum is currently lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville as of Friday afternoon, August 30, where he is being held on a $5,000 full cash bond only.
