LOUISA, Ky. (June 7, 2024) — Addiction Recovery Care (ARC) today announced that it has become the first addiction treatment provider in Kentucky to receive accreditation from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for its therapeutic community program. This approval from accreditors underscores ARC’s commitment to providing world-class, individualized, comprehensive treatment that fosters personal growth and accountability within its peer-to-peer community.

Therapeutic communities are highly structured residential environments designed to treat substance abuse and other behavioral health needs. The primary goals are to foster personal growth and accountability.

A Commitment to Excellence

The three-year accreditation from CARF is a significant milestone for ARC. It validates the high standards of care and commitment to continuous improvement within its therapeutic community.

“This stamp of approval means we are providing the gold standard of treatment for substance use disorder,” said Pat Fogarty, ARC Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Behavioral Health. “It’s a signal of our commitment to providing treatment focused on long-term outcomes over short-term gains.”

Since 2015, ARC has received seven different accreditations from CARF:

  • Case Management/Services Coordination – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Detoxification/Withdrawal Management – Residential – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Intensive Outpatient Treatment – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Outpatient Treatment – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Partial Hospitalization – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Residential Treatment – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions
  • Therapeutic Communities – Substance Use Disorders/Addictions

Enhancing Client Growth through Community

ARC’s therapeutic community offers a unique and effective approach to addiction recovery. The program emphasizes the importance of clients holding each other accountable by addressing negative behaviors in a supportive and structured environment.

In this therapeutic community, clients learn to confront each other’s behaviors compassionately, fostering a culture of mutual support and accountability. Supervisors are nominated each week, allowing clients to take on leadership roles and embrace opportunities for personal development. This approach represents the social model at its purest form, providing a safe and nurturing environment for individuals to address resentments, fears, and guilt through writing and actions.

“At ARC, we work relentlessly to equip our clients with the tools they need to find success and lasting recovery,” said Fogarty. “And we’re proud to be leading the way in offering therapeutic community support, which helps individuals build an effective foundation to transform their lives and overcome addiction — leading into a life of flourishing recovery.”

During the spring, CARF accreditors spent four days with ARC staff in its treatment facilities across the Commonwealth, examining various criteria, including program structure, schedules, and quality staffing.
