LOUISA CITY COUNCIL SETS TIME FOR
4th of July Parade…BRIDGET JAMES NEW CITY CLERK…

On Tuesday June 11, 2024 the Louisa City Council met for a Regular Monthly Meeting at City Hall, 215 N. Main Cross, Louisa, Kentucky, 41230 at 6 PM. Louisa Mayor Harold Slone was in attendance along with City Council Members Joey McClanahan, Gary Robertson, Caleb Farley, Rose Lester and Coty Roe. Keith Chaffin was absent.

 

4th of July Parade

Mayor Slone started off the meeting with the time for the parade on 4th of July 2024. The parade will be at 5PM and start at the Louisa Plaza and continues down through town.

Water Plant Apprenticeship
Slone spoke about an apprenticeship at the water plant through the Kentucky Water Association. Slone said, “This is a great program we’re partnering with the Kentucky Rural Water and 3rd partners Workforce Development. Basically, they take a young individual seeking a career locally rather than college.” Motions by Caleb Farley 2nd by Joey McClanahan. None Opposed.

Approve Minutes
The Louisa City Council Approved Minutes for Wednesday June 5, 2024 Special Monthly Meeting (May) Motion by Caleb Farley 2nd by Coty Roe. None Opposed.

2nd Reading of Ordinance 2024-01
The Louisa City Council approved unanimously the Second Reading of Ordinance 2024-01, City of Louisa 2024-2025 Budget. Motion by Coty Roe 2nd by Gary Robertson.

2nd Reading of Ordinance 2024-02
The Louisa City Council approved unanimously the Second Reading of Ordinance 2024-02, City Employee Compensation. Motion by Joey McClanahan 2nd by Gary Robertson.

2nd Reading of Ordinance 2024-03
The Louisa City Council approved unanimously the Second Reading of Ordinance
2024-03, Louisa Utility Budget. Motion by Coty Roe 2nd by Caleb Farley.

2nd Reading of Ordinance 2024-04
The Louisa City Council approved unanimously the Second Reading of Ordinance 2024-04, Utility Employees Compensation. Motion by Gary Robertson 2nd by Joey McClanahan.

All city employees with receive a 3.5% raise under the ordinances above.

Appointment of City Clerk
Mayor Slone announced at the Louisa City Council the New City Clerk will be Bridget James. She was unable to be at the Council Meeting. Slone said Ms. James has extensive experience with the state and federal government that is the reason he chose her. (The Lazer will visit with Ms. James when she gets started.

MOA with Lawrence County Fiscal Court
Slone explained that the City and County have decided to switch some equipment around. The County will receive 2 trucks that don’t run for 2 pieces of equipment that do work that go to the city.

Council Comments
Councilman Joey McClanahan discussed having a time capsule for Louisa. McClanahan is originally from Russell, Kentucky and when Joey was one year old they put mementos in a time capsule then after 50 years the town opens the time capsule. There will be a committee formed and announce more to come. Motion by Gary Robertson 2nd by Caleb Farley. None Opposed.

Council member Rose Lester is concerned about speeders especially on Lady Washington and the street that goes by the library and funeral home. “They fly through there and the is going to be a wreck,” Ms. Lester said

FIVCO Guest
Mayor Slone announced Jasper Ball from FIVCO. Mr. Ball is a Utilities Planner with FIVCO and is a liaison between parties.

Executive Session
Mayor Slone announced there is a possible litigation suit, there is also a potential property acquisition but no final action has been taken and a personnel appt to city official that was discussed.

Medical marijuana in Louisa?

Mayor Slone also spoke to the council concerning medical marijuana. He showed a video concerning KRS laws that govern the sale of medical marijuana in Louisa and other parts of the state. Slone said council will have some choices to make about the new laws soon.

    Does Rose Lester only care about the streets that she lives on? A few months ago she complained about the people Going to the fire department and using Lady Washington and this month it’s just regular speeders. Apparently people only speed on Lady Washington.
