Lawrence Co. opens District play with shutout vs Betsy Layne; 58th title game tonight

Louisa, Ky. —  Senior Jaylee Maxie hit a leadoff homer and Lawrence Co. rolled to a 14-0 victory over Betsy Layne on Monday in the 58th District semifinals.

Brooklyn Ellis tossed five innings and only allowed two hits, struck out 10 and walked 3 to get the win in the circle. Ellis also host her 8th home run of the season.

Senior Abby Nelson hit three doubles, had two RBIs and scored two runs, Jada Patton had three hits one RBI and scored two runs, Maxie had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs, Addalyn Woods and two hits including a triple, one RBI and scored two runs, Bree Jones had two hits, one RBI and scored once, Senior Dani Crum singled, drove in one and scored twice, Hallie Adkins doubled, drove in a run and scored once, Abby Maynard scored a run.

The Bulldogs will play at home for a 58th District title at 7:00 on Tuesday versus Floyd Central after the Jaguars beat Prestonsburg 6-4 in Monday’s second semifinal game.

Lawrence Co. swept Floyd Central in the regular season by the combined scores of 35-2.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Monday was a nice celebration for our 3 seniors. Family and friends came out to support them, and we appreciate that. Senior Jaylee Maxie started us off in the 1st with a lead-off homerun, and we never looked back. Brooklyn Ellis threw a shutout and looked good in the circle. We’re excited to play tonight for the district championship at home 7 pm.”
