Huntington, W. Va. — Louisa native Bryce Blevins had a career high 11 strikeouts in a 9-1 Marshall victory over Georgia St. Saturday at Jack Cook Field.

Blevins has a team best 2.59 era for the Herd.

Blevins improved to 3-3 on the year with a strong performance in his seven innings of work, he allowed one run, walked one, allowed four hits and struck out a career high 11 Panthers.

The Thundering Herd sits at 8-15 in the Sun Belt Conference and 15-31 overall and will go for the sweep of Georgia St. on Sunday afternoon.

Marshall has two series left after today’s game. They will travel to James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia on May 10-12 before hosting Coastal Carolina on May 16-18.

PLAYER’S COMMENTS

“… Last week was a tough one for me, for the first time this year I went out there and just didn’t execute pitches well enough to get the outs that I needed so they did what they should have done and made me pay. The mindset going into this weekend was to get back to what I have done all year by competing and executing all of my pitches at a high rate. I knew if I did those two things that I would give us a good chance to win a ball game.”

“… The deal didn’t have much of an effect at all on me. It honestly allowed me to relax a little bit and go through all my pregame routines a little slower and take my time. All 4 of my pitches yesterday were on for me. I knew in the bullpen before the game that it was going to be a good day to go out and compete. After last week, I wanted to go out and make up for that bad quality start. I did just that I felt like.”

“… It was huge for us. Our conference is wide open right now and we are down to our last 3 weeks. We all know how bad we need to win these last 3 weeks so I knew like I said if I went out and competed at a high level and brought the energy for us that we would be on the winning side after the game was over. Our team made huge plays and had huge hits over the course of the game which made it comfortable to pitch and that’s always a good thing.”
