LAWRENCE CO. SOFTBALL RUNNER-UP IN CLASS 2A STATE TOURNEY

Owensboro, Ky. —  Lawrence Co. Softball ( 19-1 ) came up just short 8-6 to Harrison Co. ( 18-4 ) in the Class 2A State Tournament championship game Saturday at Jack Fisher Park. 

2024 Class 2A State Runner-up

Leah Branham, Jada Patton, Jaylee Maxie Bree Jones, Addalyn Woods, Justin Adkins, Ella Smith, Brooklyn Ellis, Taylor Blevins, Gracie Preece, Baleigh Blackburn, Braylee Triplett, Millie Sammons, Lexi Crum, Abby Nelson, Dani Crum, Zoe Bartley, Hallie Adkins, Abby Maynard. 

 

The Fillies scored six runs in the first inning and the Bulldogs fought their way back into the game with five runs in the second inning but couldn’t get any closer and suffered their first loss of the season. 

Abby Nelson had two hits, two runs batted in and scored once, Hallie Adkins doubled, drove in one and scored a run, Dani Crum singled and drove in a run, Bree Jones and Jada Patton singled and scored a run, Jaylee Maxie and Addalyn Woods scored a run each. 

Taylor Blevins was the losing pitcher in the circle. Brooklyn Ellis pitched well in relief allowing no earned runs, six strikeouts, six hits and one walk. Ellis also doubled offensively. 

Lawrence Co. 2 Bath Co. 0 ( Friday ) 

Brooklyn Ellis tossed a one hit complete game shutout in the semifinals of the Class 2A State Tournament late Friday night at Jack Fisher Park. 

Ellis struck out 13 and walked two. Ellis also had a triple that drove in a run to help her cause. 

Dani Crum had two hits including a double and scored once, Abby Nelson singled and drove in a run, Abby Maynard, Ella Smith and Bree Jones all singled and Jada Patton scored a run. 

Lawrence Co. 9 Warren East 7 ( Friday ) 

In the opening round of the Class 2A State Tournament the Bulldogs scored six runs in the second inning and held on for the victory over the Raiders ( 15-8 ) at Jack Fisher Park. 

Taylor Blevins went the first six innings in the circle to get the win. Blevins only allowed three earned runs, gave up ten hits, struck out two and walked two. She also doubled and drove in two runs offensively. 

Brooklyn Ellis picked up the save going one inning, striking out three and walking one. Ellis also had two hits including a double and one RBI. 

Dani Crum had two hits including a double, one RBI and scored once, Addalyn Woods had two hits, drove in one and scored a run, Abby Nelson and Bree Jones doubled, drove in one and scored a run each, Jada Patton singled, scored once and drove in a run, Jaylee Maxie scored two runs, Braylee Triplett and Hallie Adkins scored a run each. 

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday with a road contest at Tug Valley ( WV ) before hosting Belfry ( 12-5 ) on Thursday.

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Girls played really well down in Owensboro. Our first trip there for the 2A championship and we are better for it. Played 3 tight games down there, losing the championship game 8-6 to a really good Harrison County team.”

“… The girls enjoyed the trip, and we look to build on our success going into district and region tournaments.”
