VERY BAD IRISH LUCK: MAGOFFIN COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR FIRST & SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT FELONIES ON SAINT PATRICK’S DAY AFTER ATTACKING HIS MOTHER, AND MAN TRYING TO STOP THE BEATING

MARCH 20, 2024 – written by WADE QUEEN

BRIAN CLAY PERKINS,, 40, OF SALYERSVILLE, KENTUCKY, WAS ARRESTED ON SUNDAY NIGHT, MARCH 17 (SAINT PATRICK’S DAY) FOR SEVERE FELONY ASSAULTS OF HIS WOMAN AND ALSO A MAN, AS WELL AS FIRST DEGREE BURGLARY, AFTER BREAKING INTO HIS MOTHER’S HOME IN MAGOFFIN COUNTY, KY. .

A Magoffin County, Kentucky man landed himself in jail on Saint Patrick’s Day night, after police say he beat his mother at her home.

According to the  Magoffin County Sheriff Office, on Sunday evening, March 17, deputies were called to the home on Kel Patton Road, about a report that Brian Clay Perkins, 40, of Salyersville, KY., was assaulting his mother at her home.

Witnesses told the deputies that Brian Perkins kicked in the door of his mother’s house and began beating her. The woman was able to get away from him and tried to lock herself in a van, but Brian Perkins was able to get the door open and allegedly continued hitting his mother in the van.

Witnesses further told the deputies that an unidentified man attempted to stop the attack on the woman, but Brian Perkins allegedly then grabbed a logging chain and beat that man with it. The deputies were unable to locate the chain, but witnesses said Perkins threw it in the back of a neighbor’s truck, and that neighbor had left before police got there.

Brian Perkins was arrested by deputy Neil Watson of the Magoffin County Sheriff Office, and was charged with:

  • ASSAULT, 2ND DEGREE – DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, for the attack on his mother;
  • *ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE, for the chain attack on the man;
  • *BURGLARY, 1ST DEGREE, and
  • *CRIMINAL TRESPASSING-3RD DEGREE.

The second degree assault and first degree burglary are Class C felonies, punishable by five (5) to ten (10) years in prison, while the first degree assault charge is a Class B felony is punishable by ten (10) to twenty  (20)

Brian Clay Perkins was transported to and is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
