PIKE COUNTY, KENTUCKY MAN ARRESTED IS INDICTED FOR  FELONY ASSAULT CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO FEBRUARY 2023 CASE INVOLVING STABBING OF WOMAN

SUSPECT, WHO WAS ALSO INDICTED ON PERSISTENT FELONY CHARGE, FACING LIFE IN PRISON; COULD NOT BE SERVED INDICTMENT DUE TO BEING JAILED FOR PROBATION VIOLATION FROM PAST LAWRENCE COUNTY CASE

FEBRUARY 25, 2024 – written by WADE QUEEN

JOHNNY GIBSON, 50, OF VIRGIE, KY., WHO WAS INDICTED FOR FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT & PERSISTENT FELONY OFFENDER II IN OCTOBER 2023,  FOR THE STABBING A WOMAN IN FEBRUARY 2023, WITH THE FELONY ENHANCEMENT CHARGE AGAINST JOHNNY GIBSON LEAVES HIM FACING LIFE IN PRISON.

A Pike County, Kentucky man was arrested pronto this week  and will now answer allegations from a year ago that he stabbed a woman, moments following his release from an area jail for a probation violation.

Johnny W. Gibson, 50, of Virgie, KY., is charged in an indictment with:

*   ASSAULT, 1ST DEGREE, and

  • PERISTENT FELONY OFFENDER II.

The first-degree assault is a Class B felony, which carries a potential sentence of from 10 years to up to 20 years in prison; while the Persistent Felony Offender 2 charge is a Class A felony,  which carries a potential sentence of from 20 years to up to 50 years, which is essentially life in prison.

Last February 23, 2023, law enforcement were called to a home in Virgie, after a woman called 911 to report she had been stabbed. When police officers arrived on the scene, they found the woman with a belt and bandages wrapped around her leg.

The woman told police officers that she and Johnny Gibson had been in an argument, and she was afraid, because he had been physical with her in the past when they argued. She said she grabbed a knife to protect herself, but that Johnny Gibson took it from her and stabbed her with it.

Johnny Gibson stated to the officers that he was trying to get the knife away from her when he accidentally stabbed her in the leg. However, Johnny Gibson found himself arrested by police for his stabbing assault of the woman.

According to Pike County court documents, Johnny Gibson was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville, and later released after posting a $7,000 partially secured bond.

According to recent Pike County court documents, Johnny Gibson was arrested again on October 4, 2023, on charges including driving on a suspended license and violating probation related to the same Lawrence County case on which he was charged with being a persistent felony offender.

However, Pike County court documents showed that Johnny Gibson was released the next day on his own recognizance, and he remained free until November 20, 2023, when he appeared in Lawrence County District Court, when he was ordered by a judge to be jailed for violating his probation  .

Johnny Gibson was indicted on the stabbing and felony offender charges back in October 2023, but he was jailed in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, KY., in Johnson County, at the time for a probation violation from a drug charge involving a 2018 organized crime case in Lawrence County.

Johnny Gibson was arrested on the indictment warrant on Thursday, February 22, as soon after his release from the BSRDC, and he was transported to and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center in Pikeville on a $5,000 full cash bond.
However, Johnny Gibson posted his bond on Friday, February 23, and was released from the PCDC jail; which happened to be exactly one year to the day after the stabbing for which he was arrested for and charged on.
