On January 9–12 of the current year, the widely known annual tech trade event CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show) took place in Las Vegas, showcasing hundreds of new and upcoming innovations from different companies and corporations. From home technology innovations to automotive technology, the exhibit-goers feasted on excitement as most of these advancements are said to be rolling out in 2024, including the integration of AI in cars from Mercedez Benz and Volkswagen.

In addition to the features that the earlier iterations of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) offered, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new MBUX Virtual Assistant, which makes use of generative AI and can speak in four different emotions. More than the combined information and entertainment aspect, the new in-car assistant exhibits a more human-like interface as it is tailored to be more emphatic and seamlessly productive. Aside from route guidance and assistance, it also showcases NFTs like the limited-edition Mercedes-Benz NXT Superdackel collection, a nod to the launch of the car company’s NFT app at last year’s trade fair.

Volkswagen, one of the world’s most renowned automakers, is also set to incorporate the ChatGPT chatbot from OpenAI, but it will only be available for models that are equipped with the company’s voice assistant, IDA. Through the combination of the chatbot and the in-car voice assistant, it will be possible for users to read their researched content aloud to them without taking their eyes and attention from the road. More than the quick and hands-free research while driving, this can also serve as people having an extra companion when times get lonely when driving.

Other than AI integration, other automaker companies, particularly Honda, reportedly plan to launch a line of electric vehicles in 2026 that will be available for purchase globally.

Aside from new interactive in-car assistants, several notable innovations have been introduced at this year’s electronic trade fair. Samsung and LG, widely reputable for their televisions, have employed state-of-the-art technology to produce transparent TVs. Samsung has unveiled three micro-LED displays that deliver a transparent-like illusion through the tiny micro-LED displays that cancel out light refraction, reportedly making the television more of a holographic projection compared to other television displays.

On the other hand, LG debuted its transparent TV and took it to a higher level; it also showcased a wireless transmission compared to the previous releases powered by HDMI. While the concept of transparent TV projection is not new to people, it has not been marketed to general consumers and has been exclusive to business use. Hence, the idea of such an electronic device in the comfort of people’s homes entices prospective buyers (despite the presumed price).

Good news also awaits mobile phone enthusiasts as the China-based Betavolt Technology unveils its nuclear battery that could keep smartphones charged for 50 years. The company behind the groundbreaking battery also claims that it could be a safer option, as it won’t catch fire or explode if exposed to flaming hazards due to its composition.

Although it imposes higher risks due to the use of nuclear energy, such an expansion in battery capacity leads to broader horizons of opportunities for smartphones and their users. Longer battery life would mean expansive usage, which opens up doors for different endeavors, especially for those who plan to dabble into lucrative leisure like NFT gaming or online casinos around the world like Australian mobile casinos. The extended battery capacity ensures users stay up-to-date to maximize generous bonuses, log-in incentives, and playtime.

The annual giant tech trade fair not only exhibits many promising innovations but also sets a productive playing field for technological advancements in 2024.
