Kenneth Edward Marcum

A house trailer located on Hwy 828, about 10 miles from Fallsburg burned to the ground Wednesday morning killing it’s occupant, Kenneth E. “Kenny” Marcum in the smoke and blaze.

Lawrence County Coroner Wes Heston said today he has sent the body to the state examiner’s office to determine the cause of  death. He said it looked like the fire came from a pot bellied stove Marcum was using for heat.

“The deceased was sitting on a couch in the living room where the stove was located and it looked like the entire wall gave in behind him,” Heston said.

The Fallsburg Fire Dept. arrived at approximately 9:30 am and the fire was out by 11:30am, a FFD spokesperson said today. He said the trailer was completely engulfed by the time the fire engines arrived. Members of the fire dept. discovered the body.

According to Heston three fire departments, Fallsburg, Webbville, and Louisa, sheriff Chuck Jackson, and three state policemen including James Rowland, the police detective were on the scene Wednesday. He said Marcum’s sister, Judy Hughes, lived near him and was also at the scene.

Below are accounts from the Fallsburg Fire Dept. and Post 14 of the Ky. State police.
