Virginia Nell Bussey, 87, of Ashland, KY died Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Woodland Oaks in Ashland. She was born February 5, 1936, in Busseyville, Ky a daughter of the late Monroe and Katherine Carter Hughes. She was the Bakery Manager at Ken Express and Junior Foodmart. She was a long-time member and Sunday School Teacher with the Jr.’s class of Second Baptist Church. She volunteered with Sparrow Nuck.

She is preceded in death in addition to her parents by her husband Lewis Bussey, three
brothers Wayne Hughes, Norman Hughes, and Tim Hughes, and a sister Sue Sloas.

She is survived by two sons Randy (Gwen) Bussey of Garrison, Ky, and Mark (Phyllis) Bussey of Ashland, Ky, a daughter Sally Bussey of Ashland, Ky, three grandchildren Rayna (Joe) Wolfe of Rush, Ky, Scott Bussey of Flatwoods, Ky, and Amanda Bussey of Ashland, Ky, a great-granddaughter Nyomy Bussey of Flatwoods, Ky, a brother Clark Hughes of Louisa, Ky, and three sisters Ann Salyers of Louisa, Ky, Ellen Grear of Ashland, Ky, and Jane Mahurin of Indiana.

Services for Nell will be conducted Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 11 AM at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland by Minister Rock Dearfield with burial to follow in Golden Oaks Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 6 to 8 PM. Lazar Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to have been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Bussev.
