Overnight standoff near Ulysses ‘handled’ by KSP

LOUISA, Ky. (WYMT) – A Lawrence County man was arrested by Kentucky State Police last evening off Rt. 645. William Hickman, 61, is facing charges following a shots fired incident that resulted in no injuries.

The incident took place around  8:30 Sunday night at a building on KY 2033 just off Highway 645.

When troopers got to the scene Hickman, 61, of Ulysses fired shots at them, leading to the situation.

Here’s how the incident was described on WYMT this morning:

Police set up a perimeter around the building and had to call in the special response team, a WYMT report said. The response team were forced to use tear gas to get Hickman to come out after several hours of unsuccessful negotiations.

The report said the situation ended around 4:30 Monday morning.

Hickman was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center where he is facing arraignment on two charges of wanton endangerment of a police officer.
