Louisa Volunteer Fire Chief Eddie Preston said residents saw what they believed was a tornado. He said a crew from the National Weather Service is expected to survey that area on Tuesday to determine if the damage was ‘tornadic’ or from straight line winds.

Lawrence Co. EMS Travis Hughes is out of town today according to the dispatcher and assistant Denver Chaffin is helping the National Weather Service survey the storm damage in Lawrence County in order to track the nature of the winds which caused damages to homes and outbuildings, especially in the Fallsburg area.

The LevisaLazer.com will report when word if official from the NWS

Here is the story as told by WSAZ News:

This afternoon’s storm did cause damage to our area. State route 1185, Aspen Lane, Route 3 North near Hwy 1185, Fuller’s Ridge, and US 23 had several places hit that caused damage to houses and outbuildings.
We had several trees that fell on power and cable lines that were affected. AEP has been notified and at this time have crews out accessing the damages caused by this storm. If you are without power please be patient and know AEP is working to restore all power ASAP.
Thank you, Travis Hughes EM Director!

Fallsburg Fire Dept. Had a very busy afternoon responding to damage from what is unofficially believed to be a tornado on the ground between Left Fork of Morgan’s Creek across Cottonwood , Route 3 at Case Mart and up over Fullers Ridge. At this time we have no reports of injuries in our district. So far just property damage. If the possible tornado wasn’t enough, in the middle of all that, we responded to crude oil leaking into Blaine Creek near Route 3 and Old Fallsburg Road. The leak was located and stopped but citizens should avoid the creek for a couple days. A Big thanks to Fallsburg Kayak Rentals for allowing search and rescue to use their kayaks to slow the oil from traveling down stream from Route 3.

Today’s response to what is yet to be declared a tornado on Cottonwood and Birch Road, just outside of Louisa. Multiple homes were damaged with some partial collapse. Some residents had to be helped out of their homes due to the storm damage. The National Weather Service will be here in the morning to conduct a survey of the damage.

Even more severe damage across the river, just outside Fort Gay, but I guess that’s not newsworthy.

Don’t get messages from Morgantown. Didn’t see on TV outlets. Tell me more.
