Louisa, Ky. — After a few anxious moments the Lawrence Co. Bulldogs finally practiced on the brand new turf at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium Wednesday.

The team huddled up before running out on the field for the first time together.

The team got to practice Wednesday evening on the turf that they have been waiting on for a long time and boy did they take it all in just like a little kid on Christmas Day.

Some of the seniors before practice on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs also hosted a 7 on 7 scrimmage against Russell on Thursday evening with the squad being a work in progress according to Coach Short.

Some improvements to the Bulldog locker room as well.

Lawrence Co. Head Coach Coach Alan Short

COACH’S COMMENTS

“… Our team was able to spend 15-20 minutes before practice started just walking around checking out their new field. Our players were grateful and in awe of how nice our facility is. Dr. Fletcher was able to address both the high school and middle school programs and explained that our student athletes deserve a field like this, but he kindly reminded them that this field will not win one single game for them. He challenged them to take pride in it and take care of it which is exactly what we are going to do.”

“… After an almost eight month long process of planning, delays, and construction it was great to finally be out on it. Our players were excited. I am biased, but I believe it is the nicest looking playing field in Eastern Kentucky if not all of Kentucky.”

“… Our football program is grateful for our board of education’s decision to go through with this project, it will have a positive impact on thousands of our students over the lifespan of the turf.”

“… We plan to have a ribbon cutting ceremony with district leaders, school board members, county government officials, and community partners prior to the coin toss of our first home game, Friday August 25 in the Lawrence County Farm Bureau Bowl against Shelby Valley.”
