Linda Carol (Porter) Salmons, 75, of Fort Gay, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 25, 1947, in Louisa, Kentucky to Rev. Henry Stewart Porter and Mary Helen (Pyles) Porter. She was the sixth of their ten children. Linda attended Fort Gay High School and Beginning Accounting Business School in Mansfield, Ohio. She and Wilts D. Salmons were married on August 2, 1968, at the Church of God in Kenova, West Virginia.

She is survived by her husband Wilts D. Salmons of nearly 55 years; son, Bret (Gina) Salmons; grandchildren Annie Salmons, Jessie McCarty, and Noah Salmons; brothers, Ralph (Sharion) Porter, Don (Teresa) Porter, and Rick (Susan) Porter; sisters Freda Pratt, Betty (Jim) Preece, Lorraine (Larry) Lewis, Mary Walker, and Aletha Collins; half-brother, Bernard (Betty) Porter, and many other in-laws, family, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Bart Salmons; brother Henry Stewart Porter, Jr., two half-brothers, Ray Porter and Fred Porter; and five half-sisters, Bessie Blevins, Jessie Blevins, Lutie Tabor, Jenny Ratliff, and Hazel Light.

Linda spent many years as secretary at Fort Gay Elementary School where she diligently worked with the staff and students in a caring and professional manner.  From her secretary’s chair, she came to know everyone who passed through the office doors and was loved by all.

In the wider community, she was respected for her Christian leadership in her church and participation in community activities of all types and nature.

Linda displayed sincerity and compassion for her family and circle of friends. She was a kind and knowledgeable “rock” to all who came to her for advice and loving care. She was always available to anyone seeking her help, even when she was not feeling physically well.

Linda was an excellent cook, an avid quilter, gardener, and reader, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed being with her family, attending Fort Gay United Methodist Church, and participating in its women’s society, choir, and quilting club. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kyle Peak officiating. Burial will follow in the Salmons Family Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Young Funeral Home Chapel.

Young Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Mrs. Salmons and her family.
